Mr Benn Big Band

Mr Benn, the iconic children’s TV character, enters the fancy dress shop and emerges as the band leader of his own 17-piece jazz orchestra!

Composer Duncan Lamont has revisited the music he wrote for the much-loved 1970s TV series and has come up with new arrangements of his iconic score.

Tonight’s concert features a truly outstanding big band with some of the finest soloists in the UK giving the premiere performance of the Mr Benn suite.

Still active today as both saxophonist and composer, Duncan will also be talking about his amazing career in the music business and of course the background to the one and only Mr Benn!

Special guest will be the incomparable Elaine Delmar, one of the many elite jazz vocalists to record Duncan Lamont’s songs (a list that includes Natalie Cole, Blossom Dearie and The Stables’ very own Dame Cleo Laine) and she will be performing some of them this evening.

The band line-up will feature the following musicians, many of them great friends of Sir John, Dame Cleo and The Stables.
