Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado, leaves home and disguises himself to escape a distasteful marriage, when he meets a beautiful girl, Yum-Yum. He falls desperately in love and wants to marry her, but obstacles are cast in his way. Yum-Yum's guardian, Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner, is also in love with her and has every intention of marrying her, himself. Chaos ensues when Katisha, Nanki-Poo's jilted bride turns up in search of him, with his father, the Mikado.
