Abigail's Party
It's 1977 and Beverly is throwing a little party for her neighbours, newlyweds Tony and Angela, and divorcee Sue. Dishes of cheese and pineapple are on the coffee table. The social get-together from hell is about to begin.
Down the road, Sue's teenage daughter Abigail is throwing a party of her own, but could it be the so called grown up's night which really spirals out of control?
Mike Leigh's comedy became a classic when it first appeared as a BBC Play For Today in 1977, the year of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. It's a gloriously funny comedy of manners, a satire on the aspirations and tastes of the new middle class in Britain in the 1970's.
