Book Illustration

A course for adults of all abilities.

Learn the techniques required to match images, produced by you, with pieces of text. This course will show you how to produce rough visuals through to finished artwork.

Working to a brief, you'll be encouraged to use your imagination, together with reference materials, to produce your images. Your choice of materials can include gouache, watercolour, acrylic, pencils, inks, crayons, pastels, photography or collage.

Dependent on your way of working, you may choose to do a number of pieces of Illustration over the course, or you may choose to work with a level of intricacy which requires time and then the finished piece will be a single piece of artwork.

As an Illustrator for the children's market, Angela Lambert has designed and produced work for numerous projects, from toy packaging to children's books. Her work is mainly in gouache and ink for flat colour and line. She has been a tutor in Book Illustration at Adult Education and also worked voluntarily with children to produce some beautiful illustrations. Now a Portrait Painter, Angela still employs many of the same techniques she used in her Illustration and Design career.

You will be given guidance on materials, and Angela can source them for you. Ideally, on the first session, you will bring a sketch book, note book and pencils or pens.
