The King & I

This smash-hit Broadway musical took the world by storm again in 2016 and we are so lucky to bring it down to Margate!

The King and I is based on the book ‘Anna and the King of Siam’ which depicts widowed Anna set sail towards a new life with her son Louis to become a school teacher to the King’s many children and teach them Western education in the King’s determination to usher Siam into the modern world.

She is then regarded with great knowledge of the world and other customs and is appointed advisor to the King and helps to rid the King of his Barbarian image.

With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King teach each other about understanding, respect, and love that can transcend the greatest of differences.

Beneath the fraught, fiercely opinionated, conflict-ridden surface of Anna and the King’s relationship lies one of the most unique love stories in the musical theatre canon.

We are the first company to bring The King and I to stage since the Broadway revival as well as the first time it’s been to Margate.

Full of laughs, love and the original score to entertain the whole family, we are excited to explore Siam and its wonders.
