Audiobooks

Audiobooks appearing at this event

An electronic duo based in London. 'If you’re going to call your band audiobooks, you’d better get your stories straight. Evangeline Ling and David Wrench have great stories. Their songs are full of them - discombobulating observations over discomfiting oscillations. There are woozy fly-on-the-wall accounts of boozy art gallery openings and out of body journeys through the capital at night, all stretched out over stuttering, glitchy glam electronics. Managing to be spontaneous and playful yet fully focused, as if driven by some pagan design, audiobooks ride the sharp neon ley-lines that run between the north Wales coast and the grubby heart of after hours London. These songs are Pulp fictions by an inhuman league.'

Du Blonde

Du Blonde appearing at this event

Like if Nico sang about milk bottles or 'a Joni Mitchell for the anti-folk generation' (NME), Newcastle's Du Blonde has been bubbling under since 2008 with sporadic singles and EPs, until 2012 finally saw the release of her debut album on Mute, 'Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose', joined by her merry band of men known as The Hooves Of Destiny. An eclectic blend of folk, soprano warbles and quirky art-pop songs.

Flamingods

Flamingods appearing at this event

A genre-defying tribal pop/experimental worldbeat outfit with roots in both England and Bahrain, Flamingods' dizzying blend of traditional African and Middle Eastern music, psych-folk, and prog falls somewhere in between the Avalanches, Konono Nº1, Animal Collective, and Goat. Formed in Bahrain in 2010 by Kamal Rasool, Sam Rowe, Charles Prest, Karthik Poduval, and Craig Doporto, the group issued a series of EPs before releasing its debut full-length album, Sun, in 2013 via English indie Art Is Hard. A change in UK visa laws resulted in Rasool being forced to move back to Bahrain shortly after graduating from university, so the quintet began working remotely, communicating their ideas via samples and snippets on the Internet. The results from those exchanges appeared on their 2014 sophomore outing, Hyperborea.
