Art Garden Party

How better to mark our nomination as Museum of the Year than with a gallery-wide garden party?

Join us on Saturday 6 June for a day of family activities, afternoon teas, picnics and live music – the perfect opportunity to make the most of the glorious early summer sunshine (we hope!). Here’s what’s planned:

10am - 12pm - Outdoor Art Club: a workshop where families create new habitats for insects. Suitable for children aged 8 and up, free, booking essential - booking details released soon

10am - 4pm - I Love You: recreate one of the Whitworth’s best known artworks – Peter Blake’s I Love You textile – in the art garden. Suitable for all ages, drop in.

11am - 3pm - Plant & Play: learn about perennials and get planting in this hands on workshop for anyone interested in gardening. Suitable for all ages, drop in (Oxford Road entrance). Learn more.

2.30pm - 4.30pm - Afternoon Tea: Our take on an afternoon tea, with edible art (heart-shaped biscuits you can decorate), picnic rugs, tea and juice – and somewhere to sit come rain or shine. Suitable for all ages, drop in, free.

2.30pm - 3pm & 3.30pm - 4pm Music Garden: Live music in the art garden. Suitable for all ages, drop in, free.

7pm - late - Garden Party: One for the grown-ups: let your hair down and dance in one of our park-facing galleries. Expect cocktails served in watering cans, one of the city’s best DJs and late-night eats at the café in the trees. Over 18s only; booking details released soon
