The North Borders Tour: Bonobo + Gold Panda + Mount Kimbie + Lapalux + Werkha + Dauwd + Eliphino + Illum:Sphere + Abandon Silence + Now Wave DJs
Bonobo, aka Brighton-based DJ and musician Simon Green, makes beautifully chilled beat-driven music drawing close comparison to the works of DJ Shadow and Mr Scruff. His combination of downtempo, hip hop, funk and dub with catchy melodies skilfully immersed in organic, pastoral atmospheres has seen him quickly grow in popularity since his debut album Animal Magic in 2001. 2017 saw the release of 6th album Migration, reaching no.5 on the UK album charts.

Gold Panda is a left-field producer and remixer called Derwin who makes instrumental soundtracks to half-remembered, dreamy summer days. He scours charity shops for old records and VHS tapes to turn into distorted samples, and wraps them in minimal, warm beats.

Dom Maker and Kai Campos are better known as London duo Mount Kimbie. They have taken the whole post-dubstep and future-bass continuum to a whole new audience. Their music experiments with field recordings and other organic sounds, whilst still having all eyes (and ears) on the dancefloor. Their two EPs and full length debut 'Crooks And Lovers', on Hotflush Recordings, offer a tender collection of songs that blur the lines between ambient, downtempo and dubstep. Fans of Four Tet would be recommended to climb into the world of Mount Kimbie.

In a world in which upstart DIY talent is flooding the gates of electronic music, few recent voices have been so strong as to be startling. Lapalux is certainly one such. As singular as a brilliant artist always should be, his instinctive understanding of the atmospheric power of texture grips the ear immediately on listening. ‘Nostalchic’ is his debut album, mission statement, and the climax of many years of studying his craft.
Evoking nostalgia without ever sounding nostalgic the album is his most focused document to date, adding his beloved RnB and soul into elements of house and hip hop, all with the trademark Lapalux finish; infectious, lopsided swing and achingly deep texture.

Dauwd was raised in Wales playing piano, guitar and drums whilst experimenting with electronic production. Now, residing in Brighton, his early obsessions with tabliture have progressed into a specific talent for sequencing and creative percussive textures.
Dauwd creates music with a complexity most contemporary producers shy away from. Found sounds are thickly laden over multi-timbred synths, vocal and instrumental stabs punctuate organic and evolving passages guided always by driving percussion and immaculate bass production. The method, “make a noise, make it my noise, then give it some rhythm” certainly seems to work for him. Constantly experimenting, Dauwd describes his creative process as “finding a sound, texture, or moment that you can relate to, and from there develop your narrative”.
