Hailed as one of the greatest films ever made. Unemplyed Antonio finally finds work hanging film posters in poverty-stricken postwar Rome. His wife sells the family's bed linens to retrieve Antonio's bicycle from the pawnshop so he can take up the job. The bicycle is stolen, and with the help of his young son, Antonio sets off to find the thief.
