Luciano Berio composed his Folk Songs as a tribute to the great American mezzo-soprano Cathy Berberian, taking inspiration across many countries and cultures from the USA to Azerbaijan. We extend our musical journey to take in the unique folk flavours of Edvard Grieg’s Norway, Greece through the evocative sound world of Maurice Ravel, and the Neapolitan sensuality of southern Italy.
