mura masa

mura masa appearing at this event

Electronic / hiphop artist, producer and multi instrumentalist. The name Mura Masa comes from infamous Japanese sword-smith Muramasa Sengo. Alex grew up on the island of Guernsey and spent a lot of his childhood jamming in local indie bands. For a while, he immersed himself in indie and rock music until, at the age of 15, he discovered electronic music via Hudson Mohawke's experimental track Thunder Bay. Soon after that, he stumbled across James Blake, which made him realise the endless possibilities in music production. More internet research ensued and he came across other musicians like SBTRKT, Cashmere Cat and Flying Lotus, who all helped to shape his idiosyncratic mix of sounds.

Black Midi

Black Midi appearing at this event

Uncompromising but still melodic: strap yourself in for the experimental sound of maverick four-piece black midi. They met at the Brit School and built their reputation through fierce, driven gigs at Brixton’s Windmill, before supporting Shame and performing at SXSW – making a number of ‘best band’ lists – on their debut American tour. Their reference points include rapper Danny Brown, Death Grips, Deerhoof, Miles Davis and Talking Heads, and their sound has been described as ‘country twangs, ambient textures, funky basslines, industrial beats, and noisy riffs – sometimes in the same song’ (The Outline).

Jadu Heart

Jadu Heart appearing at this event

Jadu Heart are an enigmatic alternative-pop duo that create music as the supernatural characters, Dina and Faro. Channeling the spirit of these creatures Jadu Heart (actual names Diva and Alex) make imaginative, cosmic pop which takes classic tropes (tripped-out psychedelia, introspective electronica, alternative folk and soul) and breathes completely fresh air into them. Already, the masked duo are creating a vivid world around the Jadu Heart project. Early collaborations with Mura Masa's Anchor Point label introduced the duo's interdimensional sound which continues to evolve.
