For his bestselling book Walking Home, poet Simon Armitage trekked the Pennine Way, living on his wits and hawking his stanzas and stories from one remote community to the next.

Now he’s poetry-busking his way through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. The sequel, Walking Away: Further Travels With a Troubadour on the South West Coast Path, recounts his journey from the pleasures of Butlin’s in Minehead to an ill-fated attempt to walk on water in The Isles of Scilly.

Simon was recently elected Professor of Poetry at Oxford University and his writing has won the Forward and Sunday Times Book of The Year prizes.

His poetry collections include Seeing Stars, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and, most recently, Paper Aeroplane: Poems 1989 to 2014.

Simon will be introduced by John McAuliffe of the Centre for New Writing.

This event will be BSL interpreted.
