Turandot

Enjoy a dinner theatre experience with Opera Seria's performance of Puccini's grand work - Turandot.

Join for a three-course Italian meal while you sit back and enjoy the amazing sing and drama performed by international soloists, backed by the Opera Seria chorus, led by Jonathan Ellis on the piano.

If you don't fancy dinner, audience-only tickets are available.

This is the story of brave Prince Calaf who, captivated by the beauty of ice Princess Turandot, takes up her challenge - that no man shall marry her unless he can correctly answers three riddles. Despite the failed attempts of many before him, who met their deadly fates following their failure, Calaf is determined to win Turandot's heart or die in the attempt.

In the final months of his life Puccini struggled to depict Calaf’s triumph, and died before finishing the final act. There have been several versions of the final act composed, with Franco Alfano initially completing it for the its premiere in 1926 at La Scala, Milan. During this initial performance the conductor Arturo Toscanini famously laid down his baton in Act III, declaring ‘at this point, the Maestro died’.
