The Silver Donkey
Recommended for adults and children aged 8 years old and over.
A family performance based on the novel by Sonya Hartnett. Presented by The Bridgewater Hall and Chetham’s School of Music.
In a village by the sea, each day is just the same...until two little girls discover a wounded soldier in the forest near their home in France. The soldier carries a precious object in his pocket; a tiny silver donkey, his lucky charm. As the trio share stories and hatch a daring plan to return the soldier to his family in England, they come to realise that the donkey is far more than an ornament. It is a symbol of the courage, loyalty and hope that will carry them all through the First World War.
Staged by an ensemble cast of leading young performers, students and schoolchildren, this special production invites audiences to explore music, storytelling and memories of WW1.
