Beyond The Score: Dvorák Symphony No.9
The Hallé presents Beyond The Score, performed for the first time in Manchester. This original and entertaining performance allows the audience to understand this great music as never before. Created by former Hallé artistic advisor Gerard McBurney, Beyond The Score combines music, actors, singers and film on the Hallé big screen, to tell the story behind one of classical music’s most iconic scores, Dvorák’s Symphony No.9 ‘From the New World’.
Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé are on stage throughout, illustrating and taking part in the story as it unfolds and giving a complete performance of the symphony in the second half.
We see Dvorák, portrayed by an actor, fascinated by American history and the America around him, become inspired to create this great work. We hear the Native American legends and African-American spirituals that had such a profound impact on the composer.
This is great music turned on its head and broken apart to reveal things you have never heard before. Don’t miss it.
