Dvorák’s international reputation was established with his charming, folk music-inspired Moravian Duets, a selection from which is sung by the excellent Hallé Youth Choir.
Francesco Piemontesi is the soloist in Dvorák’s Piano Concerto, a work Francesco greatly admires for its ‘rhythmic energy’ and ‘range of imagination’ and one he has recorded to great acclaim.
The second half is a rare opportunity to hear a complete performance of the outstanding trilogy of overtures Dvorák composed on the themes of ‘Nature, Life and Love’. It is a fascinating journey that ends tonight with the vibrant Carnival Overture, some of the most exuberant music Dvorák ever wrote.
