Manchester Mid-Day Concerts

Duo Van Vliet are:
Rafal Luc (classical accordion)
Ian Anderson (viola)

Following an unfortunate accident with his accordion (don’t ask!) the first time he came to play, Rafal has accepted a second invitation to return. He has brought, in combination with his violist partner Ian Anderson, an intriguing programme.

The Britten Lachrymae - a set of variations that melts into the Dowland original on which it is based in a particularly moving way, is normally played with piano, and the new colours and sonorities that the accordion can bring will be fascinating. It is an instrument that has had a great resurgence in recent years, and has a range of sound far greater than the clichéd perception as a French café or pirate instrument! Prepare to have your ears re-educated.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Mid-days.

Programme:
Dowland - If My Complaints Could Passions Move
Britten - Lachrymae: Reflections on a song of Dowland
Niels Rosing-Schow - Alliage II
Toshio Hosokawa - In Die Tiefe Der Zeit (Into the Depths of Time)
Dowland - Flow, My Tears
