Finding A New Approach

ActUpNorth are pleased to announce this new one day workshop exploring acting principles, looking specifically at New Writing.

The workshop will explore current industry trends and involve numerous rehearsal techniques and exercises that Natalie is bringing from her extensive work in the business and experiences with many different directors.

You will delve into the works of prolific northern writer, Simon Stephens, whose work has premiered at the National Theatre, the Young Vic as well as right here in the north at both the Royal Exchange and Home.

Other writers include Richard Bean, Mark Ravenhill and Dennis Kelly. They will also look at some of the new work being created for television and film both here in the UK and the States.

The workshop will focus on acting skills and through a rehearsal process analyse the various demands this type of writing places on the actor, all of which can be carried in to your work when preparing for auditions. The day will be as much a celebration of new writing as it will be an acting workshop. For those that would like to take the techniques from the day into screen work, there will be the opportunity to film some of the scenes.

Above all they hope the day will be informative and fun! Please be aware the writers you look at may change prior to the workshop.

Natalie studied voice under Stewart Pearce (Master of Voice at Shakespeare’s Globe for many years) and William Conacher (renowned accent and voice specialist in Theatre, TV and film) and has also worked with Kate Godfrey and Jeannette Nelson at the National Theatre and Cicely Berry at the RSC.
