London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA)

LAMDA - The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

These workshops take place each Wednesday from 5.15 pm– 6.15pm in the Drama Studio. This is an exciting chance for UCS pupils to develop their self-confidence, communication skills and teamwork, whilst having fun working towards the LAMDA examination.

Advanced Level LAMDA Grades 6 Bronze, 7 Silver and 8 Gold can count towards UCAS points (Universities and Colleges Admissions Services).

The course is run by Vicky Levy, LAMDA Specialist at UCS Senior Branch, Heathside Preparatory School and The Henrietta Barnett School. Vicky Levy's previous roles include Curriculum Director of Performing Arts and Head of Drama at The Royal School, Hampstead, Head of Drama at The King Alfred School, Hampstead, Professional Tutor at Oxford University Department of Educational Studies and Mentor for Central School of Speech and Drama.

There will be an examination during the term. Pupils will choose between the Solo, Duologues, Combined or Group Acting category. Performing a scene from memory, or two scenes if opting for the Solo, Duologues or Combined course, pupils will be guided on their choice of play and film scripts.

You are encouraged to support your child at home by helping with line learning and The Knowledge section of the syllabus.

The cost of LAMDA at UCS is £13.00 per workshop for Entry to Lower Remove and £15.00 for Remove to Sixth Form, plus the cost of the examination, which is between £25.00 and £72.00, depending on grade and category.

Classes are filled on a first come first served basis. If your child's name does not appear on the register, he or she will not be able to attend the class.

The plan is to show a selection of the LAMDA pieces in the Spring Term, giving pupils the chance to share and evaluate work with family and friends, as part of their preparation for the examination.
