Now 17 - Planes / This Moment Now
Planes
Richard Dodwell
Planes is a live tuning into missing things. Using a single aircraft radio receiver, a lost man navigates instances of peculiar absence, from the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 to the suicide of his sister.
Flanked by two musicians and with live signals reverberating through the room, interference, as in most recollection, is likely. Timothy Thornton’s ghostly score is a network of procedures and failsafes designed to persist, just about. Part live memoir, part aerial sound piece, Planes is a strange and searching show about finding a voice in the wreckage of everyday living.
Planes, was developed at Battersea Arts Centre in July 2016 and supported by Arts Council England.
This Moment Now
Sylvia Rimat
This Moment Now playfully explores how we perceive time – as individuals and as audiences, in a performance and on a wider scale- considering various concepts of time.
A drummer, a stage manager and a secret guest are the show’s protagonists. A woman in her nineties dances to the camera and a girl of eight tells us about being fast at doing the splits. Inspired by conversations with specialists of mathematics, physics and philosophy as well as people of varying ages, audiences should expect rhythms, dancing, videos and cups of tea.
Commissioned by ICIA University of Bath. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Further support by Cambridge Junction, Chelsea Theatre, Bristol Old Vic Ferment, Arnolfini and Residence.
