Musical memories of growing up in the fifties and sixties

'Growing up in London in the late 1950s and the “swinging” 60s, was with hindsight, quite remarkable although those of us who were around then, didn’t realise that we were part of a cultural revolution that would shake the world. We were just like teenagers from any generation suffering from the same existential angst that adolescents throughout history have endured but we had one advantage – the fabulous music of the time - which has lived on through the decades.

'In our talk, “From School Blazer to Mohair Suits” using photos, videos and music, Barrie will regale you with stories of his growing up, how music affected him and how it keeps the memories of the most important time of his life, fresh in his mind, conjuring up people and places just by hearing a few bars of a song.

'We all have songs that like Barrie, will take us back to a specific time and place and we aim to trigger a few memories for everyone during the evening. Memories such as Sunday lunchtimes listening to the Light Programme, trauma on the dance floor as we ask, or wait for someone to ask us, to dance, our first visit to a club, our first kiss, our first holiday abroad.'

So 'Don’t Walk On By' or 'Runaway' and come with Barrie on his personal musical journey as he does the 'Harlem Shuffle' back to the days when he was growing up.

Join in with your own musical reminiscences as we cruise back in time and let their musical memories take you back to the 'Point Of No Return'!
