The Ghost Sonata By August Strindberg
What is real? What is not? Who is alive? Who is dead? What do we mean to each other and how can the smallest of our actions change another persons life?
Scrawny Cat Theatre Company present Strindberg’s Modernist masterpiece, The Ghost Sonata, a spectral, dreamlike insight into the melodies and rhythms that take us through our world.
Past, present and future mix and mingle. Phrases appear, vanish and reappear, refrains play again and again and actions and intentions shift and swim as a group of seemingly lost characters try to understand who they are, what they have done and the meanings they have to each other.
Told with mixed media, music and shadow play; Scrawny Cat’s Ghost Sonata is an exciting, expressive and ethereal production exploring the stories we make of our lives and how we choose to tell them.
Running time is around 90 minutes with no interval
NB The Rose is an indoor archaeological site. It is advisable to dress with an extra layer as there is no heating. There are also no toilets so please use Shakespeare’s Globe just a few hundred meters away.
