Scoop By Yair Packer
Semi-Staged Reading of Yair Packer’s play Scoop, Translated by Jerry Hyman.
In 1994, Abdul Rahim, an Arab school teacher, asks Beni, a journalist, to write an article about his grandson, who needs a lifesaving operation in New York.
Beni agrees to write an article asking for donations to help Abdul. His Editor rejects the article, but Beni promises that he will do anything to help his friend. The meeting between the two men sets in motion a course of events that will alter lives forever.
In 2013, Beni, who is now a successful author, is interviewed by Mike. During the meeting, Beni’s past comes to light; the secrets of the previous 19 years that he has hidden for slowly emerge. The play reveals the impact of these revelations on his entire family.
In Scoop he asks the questions: what would you do for the people you love, how do you live with the consequences of your actions, and how they effect the people around you?
