Richard III

'The world is grown so bad, that wrens make prey where eagles dare not perch'.

The House of Lancaster has fallen. King Henry VI and his son Prince Edward have been slain, murdered by the youngest son of the House of York: Richard, the hunchbacked Duke of Gloucester.

With their victory at the Battle of Tewkesbury, King Edward IV and the Yorkist faction have tightened their grip on the throne, and following the birth of two legitimate sons, the new king's succession seems secure.

But in the corridors of power a silent malice stirs, striking at the heart of Edward's own house.
With the ailing king sick and likely to die, a complacent England is on the brink of descending into tyranny, as ultimate power is seized by one of Shakespeare's most charismatic and enduring of villains: our future King Richard III.

From the company that brought Bafta-Nominee John McEnery's King Lear and the critically-acclaimed Macbeth to the Rose in 2015, Shoreditch's internationally-touring Malachite Theatre are delighted to return to London this summer with a stunning and timely new production, especially arranged for this historic site by Benjamin Blyth.
