Looking Without Talking, Mindfully
“We have no time to stand and stare.” (W. H. Davies)
Do you find it hard to stop and really look at a painting? Do you find it hard to stop, full stop? The National Gallery is a source of quiet contemplation for many. However, most visitors only take the most cursory of glances – two seconds per painting according to one survey.
Come to this event to experience how art can be a calming antidote to the stresses of modern life in the digital age. Learn some basic mindfulness techniques to help still the mind and be more present. Then enjoy the rare opportunity to sit alone, quietly in front of a painting for five minutes, in a closed-off room with adjusted lighting. The session will be rounded off with a chance to share experiences over a glass of wine.
