Samurai And Secret Agents - Recovering Remarkable Women From The Archive
From 17th-century spies to Second World War secret agents and female Samurai – Historians Dr Nadine Akkerman (Invisible Agents), Clare Mulley (The Spy Who Loved), Dr Tomoko Kitagawa (historian of the Female Samurai) and Dr Misha Ewen (historian of Jamestown) discuss the lives of the remarkable women they have found in the archive and ask: Are we too quick to deny historical women agency? Does a focus on “exceptional” female figures distract from the histories of everyday women? This exciting panel discussing will be chaired by award-winning historical author Philippa Gregory.
