Marlene Dietrich - An Affectionate Tribute

Join Terry Sanderson as he explores the extraordinary life and times of gay icon Marlene Dietrich.

Not only was Dietrich one of the biggest stars of Hollywood's golden era, she was also a medal-winning war hero and an international cabaret artiste.

In this show, we'll follow her from her beginnings in the "divine decadence" of 1920s Berlin to her fantastic movie career in Hollywood.

Using archive film we'll then explore her heroic fight against the Nazis which brought her medals from the USA and France.

The evening culminates with a showing, on a big screen, of her hypnotic one-woman show, in which she is accompanied by Burt Bacharach and his orchestra.

Dietrich's influence still resonates with modern artists like Madonna, Kylie and Lady Gaga and she has been a favourite for generations of gay people - male and female. Her own ambiguous sexuality adds to this appeal.

This show is part of the Pride Arts Festival.

"Intensely moving - Marlene was a force of nature" - Brian Magee
