Spring Concert
A programme of
Milhaud, Le boeuf sur le toit
Sejourne, Marimba Concerto
Ibert, Divertissement
Marques, Danzon No.2
Stravinsky, Firebird Suite
The LGSO invite you to join them for a classical cocktail - three-parts French, one part Russian, one part Mexican - featuring vintage 20th century ingredients and a 21st century twist.
Mihaud’s Le Bouef sur le Toit (AKA The Nothing-Doing Bar) is a 1920 surrealist ballet score inspired by the music of Brazil, whose characters include a woman who dresses in men’s clothes; Ibert’s 1930 Divertissement also began life as a theatre score as, of course, did Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, premiered in 1910 by Ballets Russes.
From the contemporary repertoire, the orchestra play Marques’ Danzon No. 2 and are joined by Romanian percussionist Larisa Sceadei for Séjourné’s Marimba Concerto.
