Les Six At Six
Wit, humour, and an unerring ability to cock snooks in all manner of directions were the hall-mark of that group of friends and contemporaries christened Les Six in 1920s Paris.
This concert presents choral selections from each member of the group – including a setting of Mallarmé by Louis Durey, Darius Milhaud's depiction of the Birth of Venus, an Ave Maria by Germaine Tailleferre and some light-hearted Chansons Françaises by Francis Poulenc and Georges Auric.
Plus – a bonus – Poulenc's Sonata for Four Hands played by the soloists in tonight's BBC SO performance of the Concerto for Two Pianos.
