Monteverdi Vespers of 1610
hallowed surroundings of Southwark Cathedral, accompanied by the London Handel Orchestra and a stellar line up of soloists, conducted by Richard Cooke.
Based on traditional plainchant, Monteverdi’s Vespers is a monumental work designed to be performed by a choir able to tackle the complex intricacies of up to 10 vocal parts in some movements and split into separate choirs in others. The choir accompanies seven different solo parts during the course of the piece. In the beautiful gothic nave of Southwark Cathedral, with its wonderful acoustic, this will be an incredible evening of music making.
