Introduction to Iranian Poetry Past and Present
While the masters of Persian classical poetry, from Rumi, Ferdowsi, Hafez and Khayyam, are relatively well known in the West, there is a rich and diverse tradition underpinning these great names that is rarely translated. Led by Ted Hodgkinson and Stephen Watts, this event offers an introduction to contemporary Persian poetic forms and discussion exploring how poets have responded to the modernisation of Iran, translations of European poetry and the creation of new literary forms to renew the purpose and relevance of poetry in an ever accelerating world.
