British Theatre: 1945 - 2015
As part of Changing Britain festival we look back on 70 years of British theatre.
Join us for an evening of live readings and panel discussion celebrating the plays that have shaped the character of British theatre over the last seven decades.
Peter Brook discusses his ground-breaking work in Britain in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, including his writings on theatre, The Empty Space, and his gamechanging production of Midsummer Night's Dream.
Mustapha Matura and Jatinder Verma discuss founding companies to create work with black and Asian artists and Purni Morell talks about theatre for children.
Mel Kenyon discusses the legacy of Peggy Ramsay and the influence of 1960s writers on those at the cutting-edge of theatre today, Philip Hedley talks about running Stratford East with Joan Littlewood, and Jim Cartwright recalls the 1980s and the impact of his play Road.
Chaired by Jude Kelly, Artistic Director of Southbank Centre, the evening features key scenes from plays in discussion read by some of Britain's most celebrated actors and directed by Anthony Banks.
