Filthy Lucre: Sound Icons Installation - Composition Workshop

Horatiu Radulescu created an instruments he named Sound Icons. Drawing upon Romanian Orthodoxy and Pythagorean mathematics, he upended grand pianos, stripped them of their mechanical components and retuned the strings to create a stark instrument with a unique sonority.

Sculptor Peter Shenai has built two Sound Icons, which the Sound Icons Installation opens up to the public for experimentation and play. Peter will craft the Icons’ detritus into new ways of interacting with the Icons – new mallets, bows and mechanisms. These will be installed alongside Radulescu’s visually stunning scores and theoretical works and presented with a series of events, talks and concerts.
