Voices Of Indonesia: Balinese Kecak Workshop

Explore a communal vocal tradition from Indonesia with tutor Andy Channing.

Kecak, also known as the 'monkey chant', is a vocal form of gamelan (percussion orchestra) from Bali. It's primarily used for storytelling.

Participants sit in circles and recreate the rhythmic effect of Balinese gamelan with interlocking voices and simple movements.

This workshop is suitable for adults and children over 13 years of age. No previous musical experience or knowledge or gamelan is necessary.

Participants are required at times to sit on the floor, so comfortable clothing is advisable (chairs can be provided for those uncomfortable on the floor).
