Centred around readings from new crowdfunded anthology The Good Immigrant, this event shines a light on the experiences of people who emigrate to the UK. This talk brings together the anthology’s editor Nikesh Shukla with contributors Riz Ahmed, Chimene Suleyman and Kieran Yates.
Beyond the headlines about immigration, what is it actually like to arrive on these shores and attempt to build a life here?
The Good Immigrant explores why immigrants come to the UK, why they stay, and what it means to be an ‘other’ in a country that doesn’t seem to want you, doesn’t truly accept you, needs you for its equality monitoring forms and might prefer you if you won a major reality show competition.
