Pictures At An Exhibition
Pianist Denis Kozhukhin performs Rachmaninov’s show-stopping Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, with all its wit, brilliance and irresistable twists and turns.
Also hear Finnish conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali – called 'the real thing' by the Sunday Times – conduct Pictures at an Exhibition.
Mussorgsky’s masterpiece, orchestrated by Ravel, curates a surreal musical walk around a gallery, journeying past paintings of gnomes with crooked legs; a medieval castle; a ballet of unhatched chicks, still in their shells; the witch Baba Yaga, in the form of hut on bird’s legs; and finally, the pealing bells of the Great Gate of Kiev.
