Bethia

Hear chamber music that emulates the sounds of a tremulous sea in Daniel Elms’ piece for acoustic and electronic instruments.

Influenced by the natural landscape surrounding his Yorkshire hometown, Daniel’s music incorporates reimagined sea shanties and maritime hymns. These are interwoven with cross-rhythms and interlocking harmonies to form an ode to Hull’s maritime history.

Written for a small group of chamber musicians, Bethia is performed alongside projected film footage from the BFI National and Yorkshire Film archives, edited and adapted to accompany the music.

Presented in association with the PRS Foundation and BFI.
