Assisted Suicide The Musical

Back by popular demand, Assisted Suicide: The Musical returns for one night only, following its sell-out world premiere last year.

Best described as a ‘TED talk with show tunes’, it is conceived and written by disabled actor, activist and comedian Liz Carr, known for her role as forensic scientist Clarissa Mullery in the BBC’s Silent Witness.

On 11 September 2015, MPs voted overwhelmingly against legalising assisted suicide. Opinion polls would have you believe that the majority of the UK population believes it’s a humane choice to legalise assisted suicide for terminally ill or disabled people, but Liz and many other disabled people disagree.

Liz has debated this subject on Newsnight, been on a euthanasia road trip to all the countries where assisted suicide or euthanasia are legal, and made this experience into a two-part BBC World Service radio documentary.

Confronting the lack of creative work exploring this most complex and controversial of subjects, Liz decided to combine her life as a performer with her life as a campaigner, along with her love of sequins and glitter. And so, Assisted Suicide: The Musical was born.

She is joined by director Mark Whitelaw (Duckie, Ursula Martinez, New Art Club), composer Ian Hill (Duckie), and a cast of talented performers to express this important but often unheard perspective.
