Following a sold-out performance at London’s Omeara, rising star singer and activist Amahla takes to the Elgar Room stage as part of her debut UK tour.
The Ivor Novello-nominated artist stands apart for her incredible voice and poignant sociopolitical songwriting. Her talents have earned her a mentor in Nile Rodgers of CHIC, extensive critical acclaim and a devoted following. Amahla’s voice moves through R&B, jazz, pop, folk and soul music effortlessly. A musical range that echoes the rise of brilliant solo female vocalists of the past.
In the last year, Amahla's profile has soared, fueled by viral success of her protest single Enough, and alongside the accompanying compilation, Enough: The Collection. This project delves into themes of social justice and resilience in the spirit of protest, even featuring Spanish and French versions of the hit single.
This summer, Amahla returns with her new single Money, from her forthcoming EP, Ooooh Honey!, A seamless blend of UK jazz and R&B set for release on 27 September, and dedicated to celebrating the power of women.
Hackney soul-jazz singer Amahla graduated with a 1st class degree from UCL with a thesis on African American brutality. She was mentored by songwriter Carla Marie Williams (Beyonce, Britney Spears) as a finalist in her songwriting competition. A year later Amahla was awarded the PRS Lynsey De Paul Prize for outstanding emerging female songwriters. Amahla then closed 2018 as a recipient of the second ever MOBO Awards X Help Musicians Grant for her exceptional voice.
