She grows up in a war zone: surviving air raids; caring for her mother; and falling in love for the first time. The legacy of war means that as she becomes an adult she is living through trauma.

She meets her father, for the first time in ten years, in the transit lounge of Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam.

She is a dual-national, trapped between two cultures. He is a professor of music, blinded by privilege, with a narrow view of the political landscape. As they reach out to one another, their past choices impact their reconciliation.
