Croatian pianist Dejan Lazic performs a typically adventurous programme which reveals links between seemingly disparate composers. The evocative musical pictures of Benjamin Britten’s Holiday Diary Op.5 feature alongside music by CPE Bach, JS Bach’s most-gifted son, whose 300th birthday anniversary is celebrated in 2014. CPE’s groundbreaking fantasias and sonatas are highly emotional and full of imagination.
The second half explores the glittering Spanish rhythms of Scarlatti’s sonatas and the intense Hungarian soundworld of Barto?k.
A programme of
CPE Bach: Fantasia in D, Wq.117/14; La Boehmer in D, Wq.117/26; Sonata in D minor, Wq.69
Britten: Holiday diary suite, Op.5
Scarlatti: Sonata in D minor, Kk.9; Sonata in D, Kk.430; Sonata in E, Kk.135; Sonata in E, Kk.380; Sonata in C, Kk.420; Sonata in F, Kk.82
Barto?k: 6 Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm from Mikrokosmos; Funeral march from Kossuth; 3 Rondos on Slovak folktunes, Sz.84
