Chopin, Debussy & Mussorgsky

A programme of:

Chopin: 24 Preludes, Op.28
Debussy: Children’s Corner
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition

Three works of contrasts make up Abduraimov’s programme. Each of Chopin’s 24 Preludes is a world in microcosm, yet together they create a powerful cohesive whole.

Debussy’s six-movement suite Children’s Corner expresses different facets of the experience of being a child.

Mussorgsky’s innovative Pictures at an Exhibition was inspired by drawings and architectural designs by his late friend Viktor Hartmann – including the fantastical Baba Yaga, Gnomus and the proposed Great Gate of Kiev.

The contrasting movements, linked by a stately Promenade, create a musically satisfying exploration of Hartmann’s rich visual imagination.
