M.R. James - Ghost Stories
Performed by R M Lloyd Parry
Following a sell out run last Christmas, Nunkie Theatre Company returns to the Old Red Lion with two pairs of the eeriest and most entertaining tales by M R James, the Master of the English Ghost Story.
Over a century after their first publication, these unforgettably creepy yarns still have the power to terrify and delight.
A Warning to the Curious - Sunday 9th April - 7:30pm:
Lost Hearts features one of James's most memorable villains, the predatory scholar Mr Abney. It is complemented here by A Warning to the Curious, perhaps the author’s most personal and poignant work, in which a young archaeologist is haunted and hunted by the guardian of an ancient treasure.
The English seaside has never looked so menacing…
Oh Whistle - Monday 10th April - 7:30pm:
Oh Whistle, and I’ll Come to you, My Lad – a tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk coast – is widely considered to be author’s masterpiece. It is beautifully complemented by The Ash Tree, a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the generations.
**** Lloyd Parry catches the sense of dread that gives James his originality - The Times
