Blur Vs. Oasis: The Battle of Britpop

Do you remember the battle of Britpop?

Moving on that it's been 20 years since the peak of Britpop and that infamous handbags at dawn clash between the brothers Gallagher and those cheeky chappies from Essex. Oi!

Tensions had been building (stoked by the NME) between the poster boys for guitar music and it boiled over when Blur moved their release date for Country House to the same week as Noel and Liam’s Roll With It. It could only end in tears…and it did.

Blur won out and reached number one in the charts with their bouncy ode to taking downers and moving to a great pile in the country (after having sold your record label), whilst Oasis plotted their revenge. It was an all time high for the UK singles chart and one of the few times a tussle for the top spot actually made News at Ten (Trevor McDonald, probably wondering just who these oinky chaps were).

Now, as the 20th anniversary of this event draws close, Old School Indie (London’s top rock n roll party) will be celebrating this clash of the titans. There will lots of Blur and Oasis with the audience voting at times for which band they want to hear next (all votes counted on a state of the ark Britpop O meter), plus lots of Britpop, the chance to have your photo taken with the Jarvis cut-out or replica NME cover. visuals and videos from the day plus lots of other bits to have you bouncing off the walls like it’s 1995 all over again.
