Hailing from St. Catharines, Alexisonfire rose up out of the Southern Ontario underground in late 2001, to become one of the most successful indie bands out of Canada.
The band’s success also reached far beyond Canada’s borders. AOF released four hugely successful studio albums, Alexisonfire (2002), Watch Out (2004), Crisis (2006), and Old Crows / Young Cardinals (2009). Crisis debuted at #1 on the Top 200 Soundscan chart (Canada), and Old Crows / Young Cardinals debuted at #2, and charted at #9 on the US Billboard Independent Album chart. Watch Out helped earn the band New Group of the Year at the 2004 JUNO Awards.
All four albums achieved Platinum certification in Canada. The band also topped charts and graced several notable music magazine covers internationally (Kerrang, Blunt, Big Cheese, Canadian Musician, Exclaim!). AOF’s sold-out 10th Year Anniversary Farewell tour in December 2012 touched down on four continents in 24 days, illustrating how meaningful the band still is to their legion of fans around the world.

Proving that loud, gritty, and ranting punk rock is still alive and thrashing in Canada, Toronto's Cancer Bats employ a punishing blend of hardcore punk, metalcore, Southern rock, and sludge metal. Citing a wide berth of musical inspirations, including Black Flag, Down, Led Zeppelin, Entombed, and Black Sabbath (they have toured Canada as a Sabbath cover band under the moniker Bat Sabbath) they emerged in 2006 with the hard-hitting Birthing the Giant. They caught fire in the early 2010s, earning Juno Award nominations for 2011's Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones and 2013's Dead Set on Living.

In the Summer of 2016, Laurent Barnard and Steve Sears decided it was time they made a record together. Not only were the two school friends but in the last few years Steve had produced two albums for Laurent’s punk band, Gallows. Soon, local drummer Jack Kenny (Nervus / Blackhole) joined the freshly named Gold Key project, and by the autumn James Leach of heavy prog legends SikTh completed the line-up.
