La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc
On 29 January 2016 the Barbican presents a screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1928 silent masterpiece, La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc with a live soundtrack devised and performed by the acclaimed British vocal ensemble The Orlando Consort. From its very first screening, various soundtracks have been created for this film, by composers as diverse as Nick Cave and J S Bach. However, in this production the film is, for the first time, shown together with music written by composers who were alive during the same (brief) time as Joan of Arc (1412-1431).
