The Pilgrim's Progress
The first fully staged production of Vaughan Williams’s The Pilgrim’s Progress in more than 60 years.
Williams is one of our most celebrated composers and this production follows acclaimed ENO stagings of his works, Sir John in Love and Riders to the Sea and highlights its commitment to the best of English opera.
Bringing this inspired journey of morality, spirituality and temptation to life is renowned director, actor and storytelling visionary Yoshi Oïda, while musically, conductor Martyn Brabbins injects his passion for British music to Williams’s sublime score.
Oïda’s production sees the lead roles of John Bunyan, and his dreamt-up Pilgrim, played by the same singer, rising British baritone Roland Wood, who delighted Coliseum audiences last year in The Marriage of Figaro and Simon Boccanegra. He is ably supported by Benedict Nelson, recently the eponymous star in Britten’s Billy Budd.
