Ballet de Lorraine

Cover is inspired by the Hector Berlioz masterpiece Symphonie Fantastique – an orchestral piece that evokes a young artist’s self-destructive passion for a woman, whose imagined presence is evoked by a seductive, recurring melody. Serussi’s work uses 20 dancers to bring to life the pure romanticism of Berlioz’s piece through a simultaneous mix of beauty, elegance and wickedness in a choreographic cyclone to both shock and compel.

Shaker Loops is Adonis Foniadakis’ first commission for the CCN-Ballet de Lorraine and is set to the American composer John Adams’ well-known score of the same name. Adams’ piece is the perfect example of minimalist music, using repetitive loops of oscillations on string instruments. Foniadakis was inspired by the strangeness and frenzy of the score to create a work for 12 dancers representing the changing turbulence of our time.
