Lassus: Lamentations
Programme:
Lassus - Lamentations
An evening of Lamentation in the face of wanton destruction: Orlando de Lassus set the texts of the Lamentations about the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC, in his stylistic severity supporting the poetic eloquence of the poetry. The overthrow of the city by Nebuchadnezzar II and the deportation of a considerable portion of its inhabitants, initiated a movement of exile and diaspora, something familiar today in the wake of catastrophic events linked to climate change.
All these changes are shifting Earth into a ‘new state’, an earth less hospitable to life. Continuing the theme of mourning, the ensemble will also present Lassus’s impressive five-voice requiem, Missa pro defunctis, with its curious bass intonations. Allow Vox Luminis to immerse you in a meditative tapestry of voices.
