Birdsong was a key musical resource for Olivier Messiaen. His Catalogue d’oiseaux, 13 portraits of different birds divided into seven books, is one of the greatest, most original works of the 20th century.

Here, the celebrated Serbian pianist Tamara Stefanovich presents her choice of captivating portraits in an evening-long sequence. From the jazz-inflected energy of ‘merle bleu’ (‘Bluebird’) to the mystical epic that is ‘La fauvette des jardins’ (‘The Garden Warbler’), Messiaen’s last work for piano, this promises to be a vivid immersion in the mysterious, savage beauty of nature’s own music refracted through the mind of an artist.
